UPDATES:
Thank for visiting my newly redesigned waterfall web
site. I've rebuilt it with Adobe Dreamweaver and some Flash plugins. All the new image galleries use the same format, and resize the images to fit, which can them rather small, especially for vertical format images. But for browsers that allow popups, just click on the image to open a new window with the full-size image. One old plugin that I've added a second time is the Zoomify viewer, which lets you zoom in on very high resolution images. These take up lots of server space, but I added a 110 Mpix image of Midnight Hole which you can find in the BIG pictures menu. I've also added a few new waterfalls in the NC State Parks/Gorges gallery, a couple new sunrise photos in the Other photos/Landscapes gallery and some new blooms in the Other photos/Wildflowers gallery. These can all be found in the Other photos/New photos gallery, where I will put some of my favorite new additions to the site. In going through all the old photos I often cringed at my early efforts in photography, but the rebuild was taking long enough without pruning the collection, so for now I'm leaving them all in. Hopefully the site will at least have a more consistant look now. If you prefer the old site it's still available here. I'd love to hear from you about what you think of the site and the photos, or what
waterfalls you think I should visit next, or anything else related to
waterfalls. Click here to send
me an email.
ABOUT ME:
My name is Dan Heimsoth and I live in Cary, NC. I first caught the waterfall bug back in early spring of 2000 when I decided
to take the scenic route from my home to my sister's home in Wear's Valley,
TN. I went through Hendersonville, NC to stop at Presto Framing Supply, then took Hwy 64 to
Hwy 276, headed toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. But soon after starting the beautiful drive
up 276 I came upon Looking Glass Falls, stopped to take a look, and I've been hooked ever
since. Now every hike or drive I plan in the mountains has a waterfall in it somewhere. If you're reading this on the web, it means
that I finally got my act together long enough to get my web site of waterfall
pictures up and running. There are plenty of other waterfall web sites and
several that cover the same North Carolina/Great Smoky Mountains area, so the
first question I had to answer for myself before building this site was
"Why build one more?" A quick look at my Links page will get you to sites which cover a much wider area or which cover the
North Carolina area much more completely than I, so I don't think this
will ever be the first place to look for waterfall information. The main reason
for putting it together is just to have a place to show off my waterfall photos,
so I hope you enjoy them. I know there are more and better waterfall photos
online, but if you're like me there's always time to look at more. There is one
other unique resource that this site may provide. Since I visited most of the
waterfalls seen here on solo day hikes or backpacking trips and since I'm a very
cautious person when I'm solo hiking, most any waterfall on this Cosplay Costumes UK site is safely
accessible to anyone who can hike. Of course waterfalls "in the wild"
present plenty of risks and many people have been seriously injured and even
killed at these waterfalls over the years. But if you bring along your common
sense you can experience the scenery you see here in person without risking
anything more than sore feet and tired legs. So I hope this site inspires you to
get out and safely enjoy these waterfalls in person.
